Bridget and Todd's love story started at a mutual friend's birthday party in Todd's backyard in Boston in 2011, but they almost didn't make it past two years together. Upon meeting they hit it off instantly, but eventually chose to go their separate ways in 2013 when Bridget moved back to Minneapolis. Despite the distance, they stayed in touch and Todd made a few trips to visit her. It was on one of these trips that they realized they wanted to be together forever. Bridget moved back to Boston and back into the house where they met, and started planning their Minneapolis destination wedding.
More than anything, Bridget and Todd wanted their wedding to feel like "them" - a fun party for their family and friends versus a traditional wedding. They wanted to host their out of town guests at a place that showed off the best of Minneapolis, and the Hewing Hotel did exactly that with their Scandinavian-inspired wallpaper designs, the exposed wood beams and grand fireplace, and plaid pillows and throw blankets from Faribault Woolen Mills. They let the beauty of the hotel lead their design vision and brought in floral and décor elements to complement the hotel rather than compete with it.
An unexpected April blizzard made the entire day feel magical, and added a sense of calm and quiet to a day that could have otherwise been totally chaotic. The weather didn't stop any of their guests from making the trek to the Hewing, and their friend who DJ's professionally in Boston kept the dance floor full all night.
Bridget's advice to other brides planning their wedding is to "make your wedding your own! Find ways to incorporate your personality into all aspects of the day."
